Team Overdue Update

Corporate Rowing - End of Week 3

Tuesday 21/10/08
I knew as soon as I got out of bed that it was going to be an interesting session. Feeling a little under the weather I drove into town and cursed the rain to stay away. Well it did, until we got out on the water! With (from the bow) Carli, Erin, Kristy and Charmaine rowing and Tanya in Cox we ventured out in the water. It was wet and cold but not to bad if you were rowing. We went over all the usual technical items and tried to focus on straight arms, bringing them up to our lower ribs, hand height etc. Just when we thought we were getting it something else would pop up.

It wasn’t Carli 'catching crabs' today but Erin as she kept having lapses in her concentration. As suggested by one of the team mates, we all have to have at least one off day and boy was it mine today. Nevertheless I felt much better after I rowed than before.

Today we introduced the ‘squeezing’ of our legs and transferring power from our legs to the stroke. We started to pick up speed a couple of times and bring it together now we just have to work on going the distance.

We got back into boat ramp at the end of our training and half of us climbed out. Tanya then decided (and I quote this) “I better get out before I fall out”. The next thing we heard was a big splash (and it wasn’t a croc) Tanya fell straight on her backside and was saturated (much to the enjoyment of the blokes watching up on the hill!!). We all stared in shock until Tanya started laughing and we joined in. If this isn’t team bonding I do not know what is.

Thursday 23/10/08
Erin slept through her alarm clock and arrived at 5.55am – just in time to jump in the boat. (Great timing if you ask me I didn’t have to help set up!). It was a cold and windy morning and we jumped in the boat with Kristy in the Bow, than Erin, Charmaine and Tanya in the stern Carli coxed this session. We were being photographed this session and Bronwen joined us later with a switch in the tinnies.

This session we really focused on adding strength and power into our strokes and on our fitness. There were a few ‘crab catching’ moments but all in all we finished the session on a good note.

We even saw where the sleuth lives... the one dishing the dirt on the teams.

Saturday 25/10/08
Firstly (if this isn’t dedication I do not know what is) Happy Birthday to Tanya! She joined us on her special day. It is important we do not miss any sessions in the next couple of weeks as we are getting to the ‘business end’ of training. Lucky we all behaved at the Earlville Launch last night because we would have had a few difficulties concentrating and rowing is all about synchronisation which means concentration and focus.

With sombre expressions on our faces we stared at the back of the head of the person in front, watched our hand heights, straight wrists, feathering blades at the correct time.

Some details for the race day – racing starts at 9am and finishes approximately 11.30am on Saturday the 15th November. Our team colours are red black and white – so don’t forget to wear them!!!

Yours in rowing,

Erin.
